About the blog:

Well, hello!
Thanks for stopping by to read my opinions about movies that I see. Some are older and most are new. Some I go to see in the theaters (both live performances and movies) and some I watch from the comfort of my own couch and even more, I will watch from the amazing Netflix app.
Of course, these will be my personal thoughts about the targeted item, however, it will give you an idea of whether it's a colossal waste of time or worth a shot!

STORYLINE
Will and Eden were once a loving couple. After a tragedy took their son, Eden disappeared. Two years later, out of the blue, she returns with a new husband... and as a different person, eerily changed and eager to reunite with her ex and those she left behind. Over the course of a dinner party in the house that was once his, the haunted Will is gripped by mounting evidence that Eden and her new friends have a mysterious and terrifying agenda. But can we trust Will's hold on reality? Or will he be the unwitting catalyst of the doom he senses?

MY REVIEW
This is a slow-build Horror-Thriller that is truly surprising. It's definitely not conventional in any sense of the term. Narrative and pace are relatively slow allowing the viewer to feel the uncomfortable feelings with the actors. Karyn Kusama does a brilliant job with the direction. (She is known for Aeon Flux, GirlFight and Jennifer's Body.) This is a film that deals with the processing of pain and loss, in a quite denying way, and in some cases, even comes across as cynical, but reaching the extremes in an unexpected way.

What I DID LIKE about this movie:
  • The tension was exquisite. It swept through the plot with ease. Who do you believe? What do you believe? You keep waiting for something that will prove whether the assumptions you have are right or wrong only to be strung along until nearly the end. This was truly a study on paranoia, delusion and suspicion.
  • Although most of the acting was subpar, the character of Will, played by Logan Marshall-Green was excellent. He truly carried the whole show. Tammy Blanchard falls right in the middle for me. She was not awesome and not horrible.  John Carroll Lynch was amazing and creepy to the end!
What I DID NOT LIKE about this movie:
  • The story is underdeveloped. There's not much there other than the exposition of the characters which is meager at best.
  • Most of the acting is average.
On a more personal note..... I had a fun day hanging out at Chris' pool with my friends enjoying the sunshine and imbibing in a few adult beverages and snacks. I love these people with all of my heart!! They bring me happiness on days like this that seem a little dark!
(Ami, Scott, Chris, and Abby!)
