STORYLINE

Samantha's life is going downhill fast. The sixteen-year old has a crush on the most popular boy in school, and the geekiest boy in school has a crush on her. Her sister is getting married and with all of the excitement her family forgets her birthday. Add all this to the pair of horrendously embarrassing grandparents and an foreign exchange student named Long Duk Dong and we have the makings of a hilarious journey into young womanhood.

MY REVIEW

Again, I'm doing away with the "Did and Didn't Like" as usual and going with a general review. Oh, John Hughes. How did you do this? What little piece of your brain allowed you to get this so well? This is the movie that that gave all of us young girls the concept of our own personal Jake Ryan. I mean seriously, there was no boy in junior high that could hold a literal candle to the idea that was Jake Ryan.

From the opening scenes with the Baker family getting ready for their days is so perfectly 80's. Samantha's (Molly Ringwald) room is so essentially PINK and the whole idea that her mom and dad are so preoccupied with her sisters wedding that they have forgotten her birthday sets up a montage of hilarity. This movie is filled with the best lines and the most amazing scenes. It's like watching a time capsule: Floppy Discs, headgear, the music, the clothing!

On a more personal note..... 

Holiday baking well underway with the help of these two little rascals: Dexter Morgan and Rocket help by playing with their toys. I made mini pies (custard and chocolate) and finally, me cooking watching Sixteen Candles.

STORYLINE

MY REVIEW

I obviously didn't go see this in the theaters.. I will NOT go see a kids movie with actual kids near me. Not my thing. I did however, watch it at my friend Melissa's house on her comfy couch.  I was not expecting to like this movie but I did, to some extent.  Yes, I know I gave it a 3 and that's pretty low, but it was the story that could not let me go any higher.

What I DID LIKE about this movie:

• I actually appreciated the musical interludes.
• CGI had its moments of being pretty great with the Beast. He had some pretty well done hair movement that I was not really expecting.
• Josh Gad! I think he was my favorite part of the movie. He was amazing!

What I DID NOT LIKE about this movie: Point to be made, it's not the MOVIE that I didn't like, it's the actual story. I have NEVER liked Disney movies or stories much due to the fact that most are sexist, racist and just plain inappropriate for modern society.

• Well, what I didn't like is STILL the same thing that I didn't like when I first read this book and saw the movie as a kid. It's freaking Stockholm Syndrome! (No, I didn't know that word as a kid, but when I realized what it was, I knew!)
• Unmarried women who can't feed themselves are begging in the streets and there is no compassion. A "beast" lives in the area and has an opulent home while the townspeople have little or nothing. It's the 99%! 
• Belle seems to be an entitled bitch! She is always seen making comments about the small town and showing her contempt for provincial life. She is willingly taken as a prisoner but decides to allow the 'slaves' of the Beast to serve her. Basically, marry for money. Terrible message.

On a more personal note..... Took a quick selfie on the way to Chad and Melissa's and of course a few of the kids! Isabella, Jinx and Rocket.

MY REVIEW:
Truth- I gave in and vacated the theater with 20 minutes left in the film.

This was just painful! I felt like I was sitting in there for 10 hours. I kept looking down at my watch thinking that it was at least 3 hours since I looked last, but NOOOO! Ten Minutes!

So, this is based on a Broadway PLAY. Someone made a Broadway play into a MUSICAL. I like musicals, and I knew what I was getting into when I went. Not one real memorable song!

Johnny Depp is a pedophile wolf, well he's Jack Sparrow dressed as a wolf playing a pedophile. Weird sexual undertones, weird sexual encounters with the Bakers Wife... Not really fully understanding wha the hell was the point of this movie.

STORYLINE
The story of a Hawaiian Princess' attempt to maintain the independence of the island against the threat of American Colonization.

MY REVIEW:
It's not a bad bio-pic, and I wouldn't exactly call it a biography. It was close and a little one-sided. They got at least one of the big points right, Princess Ka'iulani was a real person. She was brave, charming and smart. Some of the other pieces were true as well, she was educated in England and did visit President Cleveland. Yes, her family was suppressed when the US took over Hawaii. She tried, in vain, to help her country and people.

As much as she failed in this valiant attempt, she did at least delay the inevitable. She was ill for a very long time and died in her 20's.

I wish they would have stopped trying to tell the story that they wish would have been and stuck to the facts.
